Chester County’s variety of arts may surprise you! We have a vibrant arts community, thanks to a heritage rich in music, theatre and arts and crafts. We also consider BBQ to be an art around here, and we have some of the best and most famous BBQ pits in the South. With weekend community dances, featuring live local musicians and songwriters; the BBQ Festival, which features two full days of local musicians and artists; and the thriving theatre and fine arts departments at Freed-Hardeman University and the Chester County school system, it’s easy to see that we have a strong passion for art in our community.
The Henderson Arts Commission works to recognize, educate, enrich and entertain through the arts in Henderson, Chester County and the surrounding area. From March to September, the Arts Commission hosts Arts in the Alley each third Thursday of the month. Arts in the Alley is an outdoor gathering celebrating local musicians and vendors selling homemade products. Click here to learn more about the Henderson Arts Commission.
Howdy! The Henderson Hee Haw Hootenanny, sponsored by First Bank, is a volunteer based production featuring live music, local actors and lots of fun! The show is held in the fall at Williams Auditorium on the campus of Chester County Middle School. There is an admission fee, and you are encouraged to buy your tickets prior to show time because this popular community show sells out fast! To purchase tickets, visit https://williamsauditorium.com/.
We will be putting on our third annual Summer Theatre camp on June 18-29! Students going into the fourth through ninth grade are invited to join us in a one of kind theatrical experience! In this two-week day camp students will learn Theater techniques and perform in the production of “Willy Wonka Kids”. We have put on these camps for the past two years and we are looking forward to another great camp experience!
The cost of the camp is $90 per camper. We will be having this camp at Freed-Hardeman University and Chester County Middle School! If you want your child to participate in this camp then be on the look out for audition information that will come out to the Chester County Schools and Facebook in May! We appreciate Henderson Arts Commission and Freed-Hardeman University for sponsoring this event. If you have any questions please contact Chester County’s Elementary Fine Arts teacher, Becky Hartle, at becky.hartle@chestercountyschools.org.
