Quality of Life
A JOY TO LIVE HERE.
With natural beauty, vibrant communities and charming downtown Henderson, Chester County is a joyful place to live. With a growing emphasis on healthy living, most area parks and green spaces have free wifi to encourage people to work outside during the day, while playgrounds and athletic fields provide sports options for both children and adults.
A dedication to the arts through schools, colleges and community organizations brings music, visual and performing arts to residents of all ages. Festivals throughout the year are an opportunity to explore the best of the region's arts, crafts, music and food (and, yes, barbecue is an art form in Tennessee).
Its proximity to major cities is a benefit, but Chester County offers so many festivals, shops, restaurants and outdoor recreational opportunities that residents have no reason to leave. In fact, visitors from major cities have chosen to make Chester County home.
Downtown Henderson
What began as the location of the Mobile and Ohio Railroad depot in 1857, Downtown Henderson had bustling businesses along Front and Main Streets. Today, the area maintains its charm, and businesses like Front Street Farmhouse, Wildflower Boutique and Bell’s Drive-In are thriving. The Chester County Courthouse, on Henderson's Main Street, on the National Register of Historic Places, includes a museum. The famous Chester County BBQ Festival, in its 41st year, also takes place on Main Street. Freed-Hardeman University's Main Street location brings a rich variety of activities and events to downtown.
Arts and Festivals
Chester County residents have seen a growing interest in the arts and arts-related businesses, and increased participation in our many festivals. The Henderson Art Commission helps to educate, enrich and entertain through the arts. Some yearly events include Father's Day Festival in Gene Record Park, Summer Camp Theatre Experience and community theatre performances. Freed-Hardeman University offers arts lecture series and camps. Of course, the Chester County BBQ Festival in the fall is an area favorite.
Outdoor Life
Chester County's moderate climate, natural beauty and free wifi available in many green spaces have made living the healthy, outdoor life easy. Many of the city parks have walking trails and outdoor fitness equipment. The natural beauty of Chickasaw State Park and the Chickasaw Golf Course creates an extraordinary outdoor experience. Other outdoor spaces include the Henderson Farmers Market, Gene Record Park and the Clayton Family Playground.
